Did she carry that through the mall for the photo shoot? Those were simpler times.

Billie Holiday papel picado by Kai

My friend Kai now has a website where she can share her talents with us. Here is my favorite from her jazz series.   I am so glad to be able to see her new work and the ongoing evolution of her papel picado.  And, I plan to keep any eye on her blog as well.

French ephemera - Watch out for grandpere!

Famile Lahure grandpere
The pigs' expressions are pretty awesome. This is from a card game, 7 Familles, from around 1940-1955.  The families were based on occupation and you had to try and collect all the family member cards.

Agence Eureka has a ton of vintage French ephemera, illustrations, school books, etc.  Birds, anatomy, geography. colonialism, you name it, she's got it!

Mad bike parking skills

I can only aspire to such mad skills!

Man! Let's Have Fun

Leoncie, self-described "awesome entertainer."

If you like this, she has more.

If you don't like it, there's obviously something wrong with you.

Andrea Dezso's "Lessons From My Mother"

dezso bread

Transylvanian-born artisti Andrea Dezsö works in a broad range of media including embroidery. My personal favorite is the "Lessons From My Mother" series  of 48 embroidered squares with the illustrated folk wisdom and/or crazy ideas of her mother.

Yep. These make you think about the crazy/wrong/silly things your mom says, don't they?

Seal the Rock!

Jack Lord Tiki painting

I watched Hawaii Five-O religiously as a kid.  Jack Lord ruled.  My family incorporated Hawaii Five-O speak into our lexicon:  Book 'em Danno! Seal the Rock!  How could you not love a villian named Wo Fat? And, Jack Lord had really mesmerizing hair. If I had come across this piece somewhere, I would own it.  And it would be hanging proudly in my home.

Awesome Christmas jumpers

This Welsh grandmother is a fearless knitter, a prolific crafter and an awesome Christmas gift giver! She knitted for 12 months to outfit the entire family in brightly colored hand knit jumpers. Life lesson: When your gran asks you what colors you want in your sweater-- don't be flip, choose colors that match and be very careful in your reply.
