The Transatlantic Accent

The curious transatlantic accent explained. I've often wondered why people in black-and-white movies spoke like this, but somehow or other I thought it had to do with being from Connecticut.

J'adore Cary Grant and
J'adore Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn, but I've also wondered where their accents came from. I do not wonder, however, where the intrepid aerobics instructor's accent came from. I know that all too well.
