Embroidery Floss Storage: Make Your Own Bobbins Day
I recently scored a big lot of embroidery floss at a garagae sale. And, I have been thinking about recycling a lot. I wanted more of the little "bobbins" that you wind the floss on for storage. They sell these in either a hard plastic or a flimsy cardboard. I used both kinds for my own storage. The plastic ones are nice but there is just too much plastic out there in the world. And, it seems sort of silly to buy little pieces of cardboard.
Then I started thinking about the floss I have that belonged to Grandma B. She made her own "bobbins." She cut up cardboard boxes, birthday cards, old postcards, and even used the little paper wrappers that the floss comes in. When you reach the end of a skein of her floss you get a prize: old packaging graphics, snippets of news about people long gone, spidery old handwriting.
Inspired by Grandma's method, I took my allergy medicine box and made 17 bobbins.
Fast, simple, free.

Is there a template for these
Is there a template for these bobbins we can use?
template I used
I had some that I had purchased and used one as template. I think it would be pretty simple to draw free hand if you don' t have any purchased ones on hand. You could make them any size you wanted. I think the key is having the larger ends and the indent in the middle. Good luck!
